“Let Him be Acceptable to His Brethren”

By: Rev. Don Rogers

Deuteronomy 33:24

Very few people really understand what its like to be a Pastor. So when we make a focused and intentional effort to intercede for them and church leaders we increase the effectiveness of unity and working together.

Let me share why this is critical to our March theme:

*90% of Pastors work over 50 hours a week

*80% of Pastoral ministries have had a negative impact on their families.

*70% of Pastors feel they have a lower self-esteem since they started in the ministry.

*40% of Pastors say they have experienced severe encounters with a church member once a month.

Pastor’s have tremendous responsibilities. They will be judged more strictly. They set standards for the congregation.

Pastors are more subject to temptation (they wrestle with temptations just like the Saints, at times worse).

Pastors are targeted for spiritual warfare (especially before services, or with their family relationships). Pastors have a target on their back.

Pastors have great influence on others. Satan can damage whole communities by bringing a Pastor down. Cynical people turn against the Gospel. (A Pastor’s fall would devastate families, church members, and their community). Pastors alter lives and destinies forever. Satan hates this.

Pastors live under unrealistic expectations (especially for their spouses and children).

A Pastor’s fatigue can affect an entire congregation.

So Jesus gives us the prayer to pray for unity and working together when he says in John 17:20-23:

20 Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word; 21 That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me.
22 And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one: 23 I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved me.

These ten reasons are why we should have a focused intercessory burden for pastors, church leaders and the spiritual covering of our fellowship.

•	Would you and your prayer groups call your pastor and church leaders names before God today?

o	Intercede for their marriages and children.
o	Pray for wisdom in handling their finances.
o	Pray for God to increase vision and anointing for their ministries.

The Order of Intercessory Prayer for Pastors and Leaders

Your Pastor

Local church elders and board members

Local church deacons and department heads

Sectional Presbyter—James Booker

District Superintendant—John Putnam

National Superintendant—Dr. David Bernard.

This will increase the effectiveness of “Unity and Working Together”.

John Maxwell said:

Leadership—determines the direction of a church

Structure—determines the size of a church

Relationships—determine the morale of a church

Personnel— determines the potential of a church

Prayer—determines the effectiveness of a church.

“Let Him be Acceptable to His Brethren”

The Morey’s are moving to Alabama this winter. After ministering in Waupaca, Wisconsin for ten years as pastor of Gateway Apostolic Church, Rev. Tom Morey, his wife Cheryl and their daughter, Hannah, will be moving to the Alabama District. Bro. Morey recently accepted an offer to transfer to a new position within the Kimberly Clark Corporation.

Pastor Morey turned in his resignation to the church on November 13th, taking effect as of January 1, 2012. The actual move date is yet to be determined. The church is currently in the process of seeking qualified candidates for the vacant pastoral position.

Pastor Morey announced to the church “For my wife and I, we see another ministry for our future in the Kingdom of God. I see new opportunities to serve the Lord as I prepare to retire from Kimberly Clark in the next few years. I would love to be in a position to help in another missions work in the Mobile, Alabama area. Fresh vision, fresh anointing, new direction to do his perfect will is what we are pursuing.”

This opportunity also puts the Morey’s much closer to their children. Their son, Tim, currently lives and works about 4 hours away in Huntsville, Alabama area and their son-in-law, Rev Ryan Vanderford, their daughter Lisa, and grandchildren, Rylee and Jacelyn, have just recently taken a church in New Hebron, Mississippi, which is about three hours from where they will be settling.

Pray that the pastoral selection process will go smoothly for the Waupaca church and that the Morey’s will arrive safely in Alabama and adjust to this big change in their lives.
